Grandpa was a farmer.
He farmed land at Flintville, Tennessee, later at Mountain Fork Creek near
New Market, Alabama, then near Vann Town, Tennessee. His money crop
was, of course, cotton. To the right is a picture of the mules that
he and son Andy (in picture) worked on the farm.

Jim was also a carpenter, making furniture with simple handtools. He would cut white oak splits to bottom chairs with. I have a small rocking chair that he made for my mother for her (I believe) second birthday. |
