Walter Oliver was first listed in the Fauquier Co., VA tax lists in 1802 but had earlier witnessed the will of his future wife's father, John Winn. He remained a Fauquier taxpayer until 1817 when he and his wife sold their land and moved to Caldwell County, KY where he settled near all the other Olivers and near one of his wife's brothers, John Winn, who had married an Oliver woman and moved to Caldwell in 1816. During his Fauquier years he was clearly associated with some of Levin Oliver's adult sons as well as members of his wife's Winn family.
Walter had a large family but only three sons have been firmly identified with a fourth son tentatively identified. The family relationship of Walter, old Levin and Leonard is not known. They all came from MD to Fauquier then to the same neighborhood of Caldwell County, KY. Y-DNA testing indicates that Walter and old Levin had a common Oliver ancestor (24/25 match).
