PAUL HAGGIS TO WRITE JAMES BOND MOVIE

Martin Campbell (Goldeneye) is slated to direct the new film. Producers are currently looking for the new Bond since they declined to sign on Pierce Brosnan for another film (bad decision, imho). "Casino Royale" was the first Bond novel and is considered to be the darkest and most violent of the books. It was adapted for the big screen back in 1967 as a spy spoof starring Peter Sellers, David Niven, and Orson Welles, but that version is not considered to be part of the Bond family.

ALLIANCE NOT PLANNING ON RELEASING DVDs OUTSIDE OF REGION 1
January 24, 2005 - Alliance Atlantis recently E-mailed a fan to let them know that Alliance only has rights to distribute the show in Canada, so they are only planning on releasing DVDs in Region 1 (North America) format. From the start, Alliance has only been able to distribute the show in Canada, but they have contracted with other companies in the past to distribute in other countries. (They contracted with ClearVision to produce and distribute the video series in PAL format years ago, for example.) It is still possible that another company might come forward and want to buy the rights to distribute the show in other regions, but given the amount of time that has gone by and the comment they sent out above, chances are growing slimmer every day.

SEASON 2 DVD WOES
August 09, 2003 - Many fans are reporting problems with the Season 2 DVD sets that
were recently released. DVDs are arriving scratched, loose in their cases, dirty, or
even covered in fingerprints. As a result, many are experiencing video and audio problems
when they are played including skipping, distorted screens, and garbled dialog. Most
online distributors have policies in place for returning defective merchandise, but some
may give up honoring requests after a while just due to the sheer volume of defective
DVDs that are out there. In most cases it is not the retailer's fault for the poor
quality of the DVD packaging and fans may want to write directly to Alliance expressing
their displeasure. Their video/DVD department can be reached at:
HomeVideo@AllianceAtlantis.com.
SEASON 3 DVD RELEASE DATE (Region 1)
July 16, 2003 - It would appear that Alliance/Atlantis is wasting no time in getting

should be released on November 18, 2003. They aren't sure at this time whether the Pilot
episode will be included on the final season or will be released on its own.
Still no word on whether or not Region 2 will ever see the show on DVD.

box which runs under both screens.

SEASON 2 DVD RELEASE DELAYED
March 10, 2003 - Amazon.ca is telling fans that the region 1 season 2 DVD set originally
planned for an April 29, 2003 release has been delayed indefinitely. Their suppliers have
recommended to them that they use a date in 2010. Other major online video distributers have
also changed the release date for the DVD set to a new value way in the future.
March 13, 2003 - Alliance/Atlantis is evidently reporting to fans who E-mail them directly that the DVD set will still be released on April 29th.
March 27, 2003 - Alliance/Atlantis is now telling fans who E-mail them that the release has been officially delayed due to 'legal reasons.' They are not giving any estimates on when the new release date will be or what the legal problems are that are causing the delay.

SEASON 2 COMING TO REGION 1 DVD
January 21, 2003 - Alliance/Atlantis is apparently telling fans that they will be releasing
season two for DVD on April 29, 2003. Now word yet if there will be any special features in this
release or whether it will be a bare-bones package like the season one set. DVD
Region 1 consists of Canada and the United States.
Alliance also hinted that they may release a DVD 'collectors set' much like the current video pack which contains "The Pilot," "Mountie on the Bounty," and "Call of the Wild," but a fourth disc might contain some special features. They are still 'discussing' this idea.
A representative of Alliance also stated that if sales continue to go well on current and future DVD projects, fans can definitely expect to see all the episodes eventually released on DVD.
Special thanks to Clay Stanley for this news!
LESLIE NIELSON TO RECEIVE THE "ORDER OF CANADA"
January 21, 2003 - Leslie Nielson (Sgt. Buck Frobisher) has been nominated to be an Officer
in the Order of Canada. He is
expected to receive the prestigious award later this year. The Order of Canada was
developed to recognize people who have made contributions to Canada and is considered the country's
highest honor for lifetime achievement. There are three levels in the Order: Member, Officer, and
Companion. There was also an inside joke to Nielson's not having been nominated considering his
extensive career in the season 3 episode "Burning Down the House:"
Fraser: "Geiger was an escaped convict sworn to vengeance on a legendary Mountie who bore an uncanny resemblance to the Canadian actor and comedian, Leslie Nielsen."
Fraser Sr: "Who has yet to receive the Order of Canada."
Fraser: "Long overdue."
Special thanks to Krystle Ramones for this news!

outside of Canada as well.
PAUL GROSS INTERVIEWED
January 07, 2003 - Paul Gross was interviewed on CTV's Canada AM on January
6th to promote his appearance on the show "The Eleventh Hour." He talked about
another series he is working on "The Just Society" which is about a team who works
on cases that involve people who have been wrongfully convicted of crimes. He was surprised
to find while researching for the show that there is a staggering number of people in
this kind of situation. He wasn't sure if he would appear in the show, joking that it
would take 'a lot of money' for him to agree to be in it.
Paul also talked about another project he has in the works, "Paschendale," a World War I epic that is being produced by Rhombus Media. He stated that he will probably be in this production.
When asked about his diverse career of being an actor, singer, composer, writer, producer, etc., Paul replied that it's all the same to him since they are all ways that one can tell a story. When put on the spot and asked that if he had to pick one profession to concentrate on, Paul joked "What, if I had a gun to my head?," before settling on a writer.
Special thanks to Krystle Ramones for this news!

CAMILLA SCOTT MARRIES
July 26, 2002 - On the afternoon of Monday, July 22, 2002, Camilla Scott finally married her
boyfriend of 13 years, actor Paul Eves. A clip that aired on CTV News showed
the happy couple on the steps of the Church of the Redeemer (anglican) 162
Bloor St. W, Toronto after the ceremony. They were followed by the bridal
party, family, friends and a couple of bag pipe players representing
Camilla's British heritage. Camilla, wiping away tears, wore a white,
simple, spaghetti strap satin gown, and had her long hair pulled back in a
partial pony-tail. She chose not to wear a veil.
Unfortunately, the weather was not the greatest. Thunderstorms brought black clouds that darkened the city, and strong winds accompanied the hot, muggy weather which damaged property and caused power outages in partrs of the city. Thankfully, it stopped during the ceremony.
Camilla is looking forward to the much-deserved honeymoon. She missed only 2 shows of "Mamma Mia" because of a foot infection since she began her run as "Donna Sheridan" in late 2000.

November 12, 1999 - We received a message today from Paul Gross, via his personal assistant, for the fans of Due South:
Another Gemini season has come and gone and while I was slightly disappointed in this year's haul I was most gratified that we won the Chrysler Award -- a feat that you were principally responsible for. I was fully intending to thank you as we walked up there but of course R. Lantos got to talking and once that man starts it's very difficult to persuade him to stop. If [he] hadn't used up our allotted 30 seconds I would have thanked you all for your fierce loyalty and extraordinary dedication throughout the years. It is to you that all awards 'Due South' ever won should be dedicated and I thank [you] kindly.

were airing on TNT also that weekend, and they needed 'filler.'

April 1, 1998 - Courtesy of astute British fans who have kept an eye out on the ITV
British teletext. Paul Gross says that a movie is possibly "under consideration". "It is
something we've talked about but we'll have to see. It would take a lot of planning and
frankly, we are all very tired after filming 26 hours of the new series. But I do think
the show lends itself to the feature format and I now have the executive producer
experience to put one together. It may well happen." Both he and Callum Keith Rennie
appeared on talk shows "Electric Circus" and a morning chat show.
DUE SOUTH WRAP PARTY

March 26, 1998 - Due South cast members had one last blast at the wrap party held back in March. Camilla Scott, Paul Gross, director Steve DiMarco and Callum Keith Rennie were in attendance (left to right in Toronto Star photo). Gordon Pinsent, Rick Parker (and Draco) also helped close down the show. See Fiona's Due South Web Page for more photos. |
DUE SOUTH WRAP PARTY DETAILS!
March 22, 1998 - The following report is courtesy of "PanamaMike" and is reprinted
herein with his permission:
Held at Atlantis Nightclub at Ontario Place.
The front entrance was set up like a remote RCMP cabin, with a desk, a chair, and a lamp.
Sushi was the food of the evening.
Most of the major players were there. Paul Gross, Gordon Pinsent, Camilla Scott, Callum Keith Rennie, Draco, and the rest of the cast got up on stage and Paul thanked everybody for their hard work, and said how it was almost exactly 5 years since he had been in Los Angeles and had met with Paul Haggis to discuss the role. He asked Haggis why he thought Gross should play Fraser, and Haggis replied "because I don't think you can do it."
Gross also thanked Callum Keith Rennie for "agreeing to make the coin toss at Bistro 990, best two out of three" referring to Callum's decision to take the role, and for being the best Stanley they could have ever hoped for. Paul went on to say how [he] is going to miss working with Callum, and how great that after being cancelled twice and coming back twice, they have managed to produce 68 terrific hours of television. Then Frank Siracusa uncorked a huge bottle of champagne (it was three feet tall) and everybody toasted themselves.
After the speech came the slide show which consisted mostly of the production's recent trip to Alberta for two weeks of shooting, with guest star Leslie Neilson. Then it was the blooper reel ... about 10 mins of the last year's bloops, blunders (did Fraser really use the "f" word?) and canine hijinks.
Neither David Marcianno nor Paul Haggis attended the festivities.
Dancing and drinking continued until the wee hours of the morning, but few tears...most of them having been shed the day before when "cut, print, that's a wrap" was called for the last time.
DUE SOUTH SHUTS DOWN
March 20, 1998 - It's over. Production closes on the third and very likely last
season of Due South. The sets will be locked away, the cast and crew are moving
onto new projects. Will we see another resurrection of the series? We'll have to wait
and see. In the meantime, we can enjoy the memories and the videotapes.

March 3, 1998 - The Toronto Star reported on the renewal possibilities of several

Limits were all renewed.

NO AWARDS FOR DUE SOUTH

season. To have been eligible, it had to have been made last season - which it could be
eligible for next year's awards. Meanwhile, Traders looks to be the bet for Best

Day, which was held in Toronto's Queen's Park on August 15, 1997. Please see:

for the article.
Apparently the newspaper got some information wrong which we would like to correct. The article reported that there was a 'thousand member international fan club,' however, there are no DS fan clubs, nor is Annie Keitz president of any organization (that we know of at least). The 'thousand member club' is more likely a reference to the Due South Internet Discussion List (DUESOUTH-L) (formally known as DSOUTH-L), which currently has approx. 500 members.
