Brief Synopsis

Fraser's efforts to clean up his apartment building work well -- until the new landlord decides to evict everyone. Fraser, however, decides to do something about it.

Detailed Overview

After a communal cleanup, Fraser and the tenants of his apartment herald the sale of their building to a new and promising landlord. But the tables turn when the new landlord, Taylor, astronomically raises the price of rent and evicts the tenants. His idea of keeping up with the Jones' are eight new blocks of high rise condominiums.

Fraser is determined to fight the eviction and rallies the tenants to stage a picket line. He enlists the help of a brash reporter, MacKenzie King but it only serves to fuel Taylor into retaliation. Violence breaks out at the tenement and the frightened dwellers begin to desert their homes.

Feeling responsible for the plight of his neighbors, Fraser questions his own motives. In a final attempt to save their tenement, Fraser finds himself at the podium in City Council Chambers. In a filibuster reminiscent of "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington", Fraser fights for his belief that one good man can make a difference.

Interesting Trivia

  • The character of Mackenzie King returns in this episode to try and help Fraser out. Mackenzie appeared in the Season 1 episode "Diefenbaker's Day Off" and was played by actress Madolyn Smith-Osborne. In this episode, the part is played by Maria Bello, thus explaining why Mackenzie seemed to change so much in a year.
  • Katayoun Amini (Angie), who just happens to be David Marciano's real-life wife, appears in this episode as Ray's ex-wife. She'll show up one more time in the Season 2 episode "The Duel."
  • Kevin Rushton returns, once again playing a bad guy, in this episode.
