Anne Marie LoderA native of St. John's, Newfoundland, Anne Marie has always wanted to act since seeing a film in which Jodie Foster played a young girl with cancer (Echoes of a Summer). For Anne Marie, it was the 'amazed' feeling she got while watching the film, and she knew that she wanted to impart that same feeling to others by acting. She answered an ad in a local paper and got a tiny part -- two lines -- in a local play. She took classes with local teachers until she discovered theatre school. Anne Marie earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Memorial University, and then decided to attend the Ryerson Theatre School for Acting in Toronto. After two years of study, she decided to spread her wings and pursue an acting career. Anne Marie's talents didn't go unnoticed and her first job was that of Dermot Mulroney's wife in the ABC miniseries, Family Pictures, which also starred Angelica Huston. More work followed, and she found herself in guest roles in television series such as Goosebumps, Catwalk, Kung Fu: the Legend Continues, and FX: the Series. She has also performed in various theatrical features such as Darkman II: The Return of Durant and Iron Eagle IV. She traveled to Saskatchewan to perform with fellow Canadian actor Michael Ironside in the drama Black Light, in which she portrays a police profiler tracking a serial killer. Although she considers her work on Due South to be some of her best, she is "hoping that the [Black Light] performance will be one I'm proud of." Co-star Michael Ironside was very impressed with her intense focus on her work: "I just get blown away by straight-out talent. I really do." 1 Due SouthDue South was a dream come true for Anne Marie. She'd auditioned twice for the show, and was disappointed each time she didn't get a role. When she auditioned for the role of Stella Kowalski, the no-nonsense ex-wife of Det. Stanley Kowalski, she found herself battling rush hour traffic and arriving late. She immediately did a scene from "Seeing is Believing" for the casting director who, unaware that she'd literally dashed in, told her "Okay, let's try it again but this character is much less frenetic than that!" Anne Marie quickly calmed herself down, repeated the scene -- and won the role. She enjoyed the role of Stella Kowalski immensely, and made friends amongst fellow cast members, saying that she and Ramona (Francesca Vecchio) Milano hang out together. Stress on the set is countered by lots of coffee and lots of jokes, and she related a story in which Stephen Surjik (who directed the feature Wayne's World 2) directed a Due South episode. As a gag, fellow cast members Paul Gross and Callum Keith Rennie both arrived on set dressed like Wayne and Garth, respectively. Of course, it was all in jest and they did not appear on screen as these characters. When she didn't work on Due South, Anne Marie kept busy with guest work on other series, such syndicated series Eerie, Indiana: The Other Dimension, and doing voice-over work for TV and radio. Post Due SouthSince Due South's end, she has appeared in syndicated series such as Highlander: The Raven, Earth: Final Conflict, Total Recall 2070, Higher Ground, Stargate SG-1, Seven Days, The Outer Limits, The Dead Zone, Andromeda, and Smallville. Loder has also appeared in quite a few made for TV movies and on the big screen in movies such as Black Christmas. Anne Marie doesn't spend her spare time sitting down, although she enjoys reading. She keeps herself physically fit by regularly working out at a gym, and also pursues more challenging endeavors such as parachuting. She has performed some of her own stunts on Due South, such as being shoved down to the floor in the episode "Strange Bedfellows." When her character was knocked to the sidewalk earlier in that episode, a stunt double took the blows, as an actor cannot afford to get injured and lose work. Her favorite foods include pizza, green olives, Pad Thai, and Chinese chicken stir fry. She would also love to do the play Streetcar Named Desire with fellow Due South cast member Callum Keith Rennie, whom she considers 'the sexiest actor' she's ever worked with. Anne Marie married Peter DeLuise (son of actor Dom DeLuise) on June 7, 2002. The two met on the set of Higher Ground where Loder played Sophie Becker and DeLuise directed several episodes. They had a son, Jake, in 2004.
