Tims Ford State Park
Tims Ford State
Park is not very far from where I grew up, and seemed like the perfect
place for us to stay while my sister, brother, and I hosted a 50th Wedding
Anniversary Reception for our parents at the local country club. Since the party was to occur on Labor Day
Weekend, I took the Overlander up a week early to reserve sites for both us,
and for my cousin Susan & her family who also thought camping was the way
to go. If nothing else, Tims Ford put
the Airstream & the Suburban 70 miles further north of Hurricane Katrina’s
wind!
The park, overall, is great. But the trailer sites are shorter than I am
used to. No big deal other than traffic
gets held up during parking/leveling
Each site has both a trailer, and a nice tent site. This shot, taken from the tent site, shows
how much of my 26’ Airstream hangs off the back of the asphalt.
Susan faced a similar situation.
As usual, Barney
The Purple Dinosaur is a hit with the younger crowd.
Some of the out-of-town relatives were staying at the
parks’ cabins, and stopped by to get a tour of the Airstream.
Number 1 son recharges before the next tour group
stops by. Daniel! Your public awaits!...
My brother & sister also stopped by for dinner
one evening, and took the opportunity to visit with Susan & her folks.
Master Chef Kim gets the flame just right, while Grillmaster Jay shows the campsite’s fire pit who’s
in charge.
Dinner by Coleman lantern light
Even after a big supper the night before, for
breakfast, nothing beats bacon cooked on a Coleman stove.
But alas, travel trailer camping is not all fun &
games. Portable gray water tanks have
to be towed to the dump station for emptying.
