Raccoon Mountain

Aft

Kim & I took the Boyz up to Raccoon Mountain with the Overlander for a four day weekend as a consolation trip to everyone since Disneyworld was having such bad weather.  Raccoon Mountain is just outside Chattanooga, and offered a great camping site with easy access to local attractions.  Although the Airstream performed admirably for the whole trip, right you'd declare you were at Aunt Grace's house if you stepped inside our home-away-from-home with all the smells of bacon & pan-fried potatoes temporarily filling the interior.  So, I thought I would take a break from unpacking (before I got too hungry), and share some details.

We arrived before sunset on Friday, and made camp.  In breaking with our three-trip tradition of grilled food on the first night, Kim made a wonderful meal of soft-shell tacos for dinner while Daniel helped me connect the utilities.

Saturday found the Boyz really enjoying Chattanooga's zoo, and Children's museum.  I personally was impressed at how interactive children's exhibits are nowadays.  But, back in December, it was pointed out to me that I am now middle-aged. J  I guess “us older folks” are just easily impressed, "Back in my day..."

Our campground had a swimming pool which Daniel & I took advantage of in the afternoon.  Jared took the opportunity to investigate a squeak in the screen door hinge.

Some Boy Scouts were also at our campground enjoying the 80 degree weather.  Kim thought it was kind of neat until she found out they had consumed every Dr. Pepper in sight.  Apparently, they had taken “10-2-4” quite literally.

Sunday was more of a day of leisure.  At one point, Kim took the Boyz to an outlet mall giving me a chance to enjoy the cable television provided by the campground (it even had HBO).  When they returned, I took the Boyz out to the playground.  We later returned to our site to find Kim enjoying the CATV and the air conditioner.

Monday found us enjoying the Tennessee Aquarium.  Daniel seemed to get a lot out of it while Jared appeared happily content just riding on my shoulders for an extended period of time.  We enjoyed a patio lunch at a brew-pub located close to where we parked.

I am happy to report that the Memorial Shroud did not blow off during our trip.

Kim is currently scheduling the next Florida hurricane for November 13.  I’ll keep you posted.
