Refrigerator Vent Cover Repair
The
same hail that forced me to replace my Solardome also busted
pieces out of my refrigerator’s rooftop, ABS plastic, vent cover. Seeing as how the hail did NOT hurt my
Fiberglass-fortified, ABS plastic Bay Breeze air conditioner
shroud, I decided to repair & fortify the vent cover instead of replace
it.
First,
the busted-out pieces were taped back into position with masking tape. The edges were extended as it is easier to
glass past the edge & cut the excess off after it cures.
Fiberglass cloth works better for complex curves than
Fiberglass mat.
A simple jig of scrap 2X10s provides easy access to
the patient’s belly. Acetone was used to
prep the surface:
The
repair/fortification is easy enough – Using the can of ABS plastic cement’s
built-in dauber, swab a small section lightly with cement, and place a precut
piece of mat on it. Then daub additional
cement on top of the mat. Repeat the
above until the entire area is covered.
Extinguish all pilot lights beforehand and work with
plenty of ventilation because the air really gets potent!
Hmm, I may get another vent cover and a can of John
Deere green…
