Day 89

Rodney and Dennis showed up around the time Mr. Terry was installing the hardwood floors to start work on the ceramic tile.

While my pitiful picture below does not do their work on the laundry room floor justice, these fellas are true craftsmen in that they both want to do superior work, and appear to enjoy comparing notes with Kim to make sure she is happy with the way everything is turning out.  Kim & I both could not be happier.

The problem with a more than one team of craftsmen showing up at a time is that everyone brings their own set of power tools which need to be plugged in.  There are only so many outlets available since the addition has not been hooked to the main power yet, and those outlets are not really suitable for some of the guys’ heavy duty tools.

Tiring of resetting circuit breakers after getting home, it dawned on me that I could hook a heavy duty plug onto Big Tub’s main 200 amp service wire and supply temporary power to the addition for lights & tools.  Of course this is not exactly code, but done properly there would be nothing unsafe.  I just had to be sure & cover my tracks before Buck the electrician came by again.

Deciding that our lot would benefit by having one less “big” thing, Jerry came by the other day to remove the brick pile, and level the big pile of dirt in the back yard.  Now that’s the way to load a wheelbarrow!

In the ‘Day 1’ pictures, you may recall Jerry pulling up some fence posts for me.  Without a firm plan in place, I only had him pull about half of the fences posts affected by the construction, and that was after I had cut ties & removed the chain link.  After we decided to remove the rest of the fence’s run, Kim & Daniel got involved in the action:

Fence post removal is a piece of cake for Jerry:

The Porta-potty guys deserve a pat on the back – Their frequent service & restock visits did not go unnoticed.

No more Big Pile

Well, Buck caught me.   The builder asked us to schedule the utility company to shut our power off on Thursday for the service upgrade.  My plan had been to remove the heavy duty plug at O’dark-thirty before they got there.  What my plan did not include was Buck, Brandon, and Steve showing up on Wednesday to do everything they could with the power still on.

Even though I think he got a kick out of my plug, being a professional electrician he was obligated to look sternly at me & shift his gaze to the non-standard use of an old air conditioner cord.  But, he then lightened up and asked if everything worked.  “Of course it did Buck – you wired the place!”

That was, I believe, the appropriate response.

Rodney & Dennis will probably finish up work in the master bath in the next few days.  The end is in sight!
