Day 46

Between a challenging chimney, and add-ons to recover from various goofs, there has been a mason on Big Tub’s work site almost daily for about a month now.  But Andrew, George, Kenny, and Alton have done an outstanding job with the brickwork.  It is obvious they take pride in their work:

Meanwhile, the insulation crew works inside installing insulation the wrong way. L  Notice in the picture below how the wall studs can be seen between each batt of insulation?  The brown (kraft) paper attached to the insulation itself is wider on both sides than the insulation so that it can be stapled to the face of each stud.  This provides better, overall insulation than tucking it in as this fella is doing.  But in his defense, while not adhering to the insulation manufacturer’s recommendation for hanging insulation, he is leaving the wall looking the way the sheetrock hanging crew likes to find it.  The studs are easier to find when not hidden by brown paper.  Luckily, this is easy enough to fix later.

Nothing’s ever easy.  The first picture below shows the new “Friend’s Entrance” flanked on the left by one of Big Tub’s walls, and on the right by the old master bedroom’s window.  You may recall that the builder had to move the wall in which the door is mounted in order to accommodate the window.  What I did not realize at the time, and was pointed out to me today by George, is that, as the second picture shows,  there is not enough space between the window case and the door to lay brick.

The builder tells me he was considering hanging siding instead.  Thinking “over my dead body”, I allowed that I was thinking of having the window tossed in the dumpster, and one acquired that complemented the Friend’s Entrance more suitably.  He thought that was a good idea too.

So it looks like there will be a bit of outside construction down-time waiting for a new window to arrive.  The sheetrock may show up soon though.

Stay tuned!   Same bat-channel
