Day 24
The
masons are in the home stretch with “Tom’s Technicolor Chimney of Many Change
Orders”. While my personal brick pile contributed
to the chimney up to the roofline, the bricks being laid in the picture below are
the house’s original exterior brick. In
fact, I believe the masons are presently laying the ones Kim cleaned…

Daniel takes time to smell the tulips:

The
framers turned their attention to finishing the eaves. Cedar was specified for the fascia &
frieze boards due to its resistance to rot.
Nowadays, the only economical way to get cedar is in the form of “finger-jointed”
boards wherein many small boards are end milled & glued together
lengthwise. Structurally, I have no
problem with finger-jointed boards.
While everything seen below will end up painted, I think all the “busyness”
looks cool:

Number
1 son pauses to catch his breath after running a few rooftop wind sprints. I told him he may one day beat his Uncle Andy’s
record…

Number 2 son opted to grill tonight.

The
masons should finish the chimney tomorrow while the framers modify the old
master bedroom. We may also see the
electrician & HVAC folks too. Big
Tub is moving right along!
