These 2 pictures were taken as part of Drive Your British Car Week 1999. Our club (North Alabama British Motoring Society) received a proclamation from the Mayor of the City of Huntsville. Several of us drove our cars to the proclamation in Big Spring Park. Photos by Rich Mason.

Here are some pictures from the NABMS drive to the Bankhead National Forest in northwest Alabama, fall 1999. Photos by Jack Stokes. The last picture features yours truly, my daughter Caroline (age 8.5), and Bob Hardison, owner of the white Jaguar E-type seen in several of the photos.

Here's the infamous speeding ticket I got for going 93 mph in a 70 zone. This was on the way to the monthly meeting of the NABMS on November 2, 1999. My friend Dave Drew from England was in the car with me. I was showing him the car's "capabilities" and we blew past an unmarked Alabama State Trooper. Oops. At least Dave had the "complete" Highway Star experience. I let him drive it home after the club meeting. Funny, he didn't seem to want to go very fast. This was my first speeding ticket in about 20 years, and only my second ticket ever.
As part of the annual North Alabama British Car and Motoring Club show, Regency Square Mall, Florence, Alabama, March 24-26, 2000.
These two were taken as part of the Drive Your British Car Week 2000 declaration by the mayor of Huntsville. In the second photo we have (L-R): Mark Reavis, Tom Keith, Bowes Channell, Bob Hardison, Huntsville Mayor Loretta Spencer, yours truly, Lou Nosenzo, Jack Farrington. Photos by Chance Rosic.
Here I am at Eurofest 2000 in Nashville, which was held indoors at the Opryland Hotel convention center. I've just driven 100 miles from Huntsville. As you pull in, they take your car's picture. The engine is idling, the car is overheating badly, and I am not a happy camper as the photographer is taking too long. Shortly after this photo, I parked the car in its designated spot and it promptly dumped a couple of gallons of coolant onto the floor. The hotel staff were not happy! Luckily I had a large towel in the boot, which I used to sop up the coolant.
In spite of all this, my car took 3rd place in the "Other British Coupes" class. It is the first award the Star has received. First place went to a very nice Morris Minor, and 2nd went to a nice Mini. But the 7200cc Highway Star was done in by a couple of 1000cc commuto-boxes. Argh! In the picture you can also see my Corgi model Interceptor.

This one is from the 2000 NABMS Father's Day British Car Show. (Looks like there were some water spots on the camera lens.) I had the good fortune to be parked right in front of the Victoria's Secret store. Too bad there's not a sexy babe perched on the hood!
Well, that crazy bastard Ocker superimposed a sexy babe on the hood. Most excellent! Thanks, man. Click here to see it. 91K, rated R for nudity.
Here are some great photos from my visit to Frank Schwartz's.
Here are the new floormats which were ordered from Griot's Garage on the advice of David Crowne of the Jensen email list. The mats fit perfectly. Photo by yours truly.
At a Sunbeam owner's convention (TE/AE Fall SOS 2000) I won an award for "Lamest Excuse For Not Driving Your Sunbeam." Since my Beamer is off the road, I always drive the Interceptor. When anyone ribs me about it, I tell them that all Sunbeam Tigers were assembled at the Jensen factory. So that oft-repeated spiel won me the prize! Photos by Chuck Colley.
The NABMS had a "cruise-in" at a local auto parts store on May 19, 2001. Besides the Highway Star, we had 2 MGB's, 2 Jag XJ6's, a Jag XJ-S coupe, a Bentley S2, and one of the new Jag SS's. Photo by Mark Reavis.

On September 22, 2001, Frank Schwartz and I took our Interceptors to the Music City (Nashville) Mopar Club show. We were the only 2 Interceptors there, so we got quite a bit of attention. We were in the "Special Interest" class, along with the Plymouth Prowlers and I am not sure what else. I was sure Frank would win a prize, his car took first place at the 2000 Jensen Nationals in north Georgia. But both of those Prowlers were gorgeous, one had less than 500 miles on it. I didn't think I had a chance to win a prize. Hell, I didn't even bother to wash my car after the 110 mile drive. But I took second in class!
(98K) Here is Frank standing proudly in front of the Silver Bullet, with the Highway Star just to his right.
(89K) This one shows Patrick Henry at the wheel of the Highway Star. Patrick is a fellow motorhead, he owns a Ford Mustang Mach I (a 1970 model I think). He is also the bass player of the rock group Salem Hill, which is how I first met him. It was actually quite a surprise to see him there at the Mopar show; he just happened to be there ogling the cars and recognized my car.
(63K) October 5, 2002: The auto mechanics department of the local community college put on a car show as a fundraiser. A girl I know is a student there. I thought it was a great idea for a fundraiser. The weather was perfect, and I took 2nd place in the import class. NABMS member Rik Holman took 1st place with his beautiful 1979 MG Midget. Click here for pictures and results at the school's web site; the Star can be seen in a couple of the pictures. The plaques have pictures of each car on them, which I thought was a nice touch. You can see Rik and I in the background of the photo on my plaque, and a bit of his car as well. The gold text on the plaque did not scan well so I quickly touched it up to be readable. The students in the auto mechanics department had many postive comments about the Highway Star! (Photos by Heather Smith except where noted)

April 12, 2003: NABMS member Don Province took Best Of Show with his MG TD at our local Hooter's Restaurant 2003 car show. Here's Don and the girls. The Highway Star can be seen in the left background. (Photo by Doug Eagan)
In a sad coincidence, Don passed away exactly one year later on April 12, 2004 after a long bout with cancer.

The parking lot of the Embassy Suites hotel in Franklin was filled with Jensens.
Another shot of the Star in the parking lot. The dark red Mk 3 saloon on the right belongs to Bob Lassiter from Virginia. Like the Star, Bob's car has aftermarket wheels. His car also has the headlight surrounds from the Interceptor S4 of the 1980s, which gives it a unique look. (Photo by Steven Duchene)
On Friday we drove the back roads from Franklin to Lynchburg and toured the Jack Daniel's distillery. Here I am in front of the general store on the Lynchburg town square. "All goods worth price charged." (Photo by Sherman Taffel)
On Saturday we put our cars into the Nashville Eurofest, a big show for European cars that is held every year. The beautiful Jensen CV8 Mk II won several awards over the weekend; it is owned by George Phelps in Maryland. On the other side of the Highway Star is a beautiful Interceptor Mk II owned by Scott Laramy of Georga. Scott's car won Best Interceptor Saloon at the National. Click here for more photos from Eurofest.
This is one of the most interesting pictures ever taken of the Highway Star. On Sunday we went to the Lane Motor Museum in Nashville, then had a driving tour of downtown Nashville which ended at the Parthenon. Joe Mazurk and wife Theresa were driving their Jensen-Healey. Being a 2-seater there was no room for their kids. So their son Joey and daughter Alexandra were riding in the back of Sherman and Camellia Taffel's Interceptor convertible. While driving to the Parthenon, Camellia took a picture of the kids and just happened to get the Highway Star in the background. Click here for a better view of the kids (and Sherman's ear!).

The August 1976 issue of Car and Driver magazine featured "topless cars," a comparison test of 12 convertibles. The cover photo had a topless model driving an Interceptor convertible with the top down. A topless topless Interceptor picture, if you will. It's not the Highway Star, but what the hey; you gotta like going topless. :^)
Thanks to Ken Freese for the scan, and for the "topless topless" quote.
