Treasure hunt of the course web site

Goals of the treasure hunt:

  1. Understand work expectations r/t course
  2. Answer questions correctly on the quizzes
  3. Begin to understand what it means to be responsible to a group of professionals

Steps:

  1. Have the students divide themselves into 5 groups
  2. Each person in the group picks out a question set
  3. By looking through the web site each student finds the answers to the questions in her/ his set.
  4. They share this information with their group

Question Set I

  1. How many different sets of E-mails do students have to send in this course? When?
  2. What can a student do who has no computer at home?
  3. Do all E-mail submissions count the same toward the course grade?
  4. If not, how do they differ?
  5. What percent of your final grade is class participation?
  6. Does all the E-mail go to the teacher from individual students, or will students be E-mailing each other too?

Question Set II

  1. You have to write a care plan. Is there any special kind of problem that is to be the subject of the care plan? If so, what is it?
  2. How many times do you have to turn in all or part of the plan?
  3. Does the care plan you write have to be structured in any special way?
  4. Where are the details on how the care plan will be graded?

Question Set III

  1. How many text books are you expected to buy?
  2. Will you be able to use any of them in other nursing courses?
  3. Are there reading assignments that are not in the books you have to buy? If so, where are they?
  4. What famous nurse's writings are on Reserve for this course?

Question Set IV

  1. The elements of critical thinking are listed on the Overview of the course. List the 6 in order.
  2. Find 8 behaviors expressing the role of a nurse.
  3. When is the first test on NURS1100 material? How much does it count toward the final grade?
  4. How much does the final exam count? Is it comprehensive?

Question Set V

  1. Are all class meetings in the same place? Which ones are some place else, and where are they?
  2. Is there any math in this course? If so, when can students expect that this will start to effect their grade?
  3. How does a student find out what the reading assignment is for Class 3?
  4. What is the last event in Class 12?
