PURPOSE OF PEER EVALUATION PRACTICE

Peer evaluation is a necessary skill for nurses. It is one component of ethical professional conduct. In school projects and later in job situations you will be expected to evaluate the performance of others : classmates, other nurses, other Health Team members, and patients. Not only must you evaluate others you must learn to receive the judgment of others on your work.

On this form you evaluate others. At your request, after the semester your instructor will give you feedback on your own performance in groups as evaluated by classmates (as a group score only).

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Group participation is one of the skills developed in NURS 1100. This questionnaire is one way a student's participation in the course can be graded. It is a serious responsibility to evaluate another person. Answer the questions by yourself without discussion. Since each person has her/ his special strengths, different people will most likely lead in different categories.
  2. These scores are privileged information. Only the results generated by the group as a whole will be available to a student about her/his own performance as a group member. This information will not go into any student's file. The information will be used only for advisement and support by the course teacher.
  3. Do NOT evaluate your own contribution to your group.
  4. In each category listed below RANK ORDER the contribution of the classmates you worked with. 1 for the greatest contribution, 2 for the second greatest contribution, and "last" for the person who contributed the least in any particular area.
  5. Write the person's initials under the rank you picked for them in each different category. Print very plainly.
