Assignment for Class 5 :

Announcements:

• The E-mail assignment on IV Calculation is due by 1PM on the date for Class 5. It is worth 5% of your total grade. If you E-mail it early, you can move on to the Class 5 assignments.
  
  
• The assignment on Nursing Frameworks is due to be submitted by 1PM on the date for Class 6. It is worth 5% of your total grade.
  
  
• Note that Class 5 will take place completely on the web. There will be no in-class lecture.
  
  
• Student questions pertaining to the assigned reading will be answered and the on-line tasks will be reviewed at 1 PM. Following this discussion, the group will move on to the topics for the next class.
  

READ ABOUT NURSING FRAMEWORKS

1. READ Creasia Ch. 7 ( nursing frameworks )
2. READ Potter & Perry Ch 13 (Nursing profession)

Be sure you can differentiate between these 4 terms and know how they fit together:

1. assumption
2. concept
3. conceptual framework
4. theory

2. Using Nightingale as a base, note the differences in the 4 core definitions theorists use to explain their framework
   
   
3. Check your understanding of the differences. Can you identify a nursing theorist by looking at two or three of her definitions?
   
   
4. Open up your Nursing Student Handbook to the Philosophy for the nursing programs. Compare the FDU faculty definitions of humans, environment, health, and nursing with the theorists you have just been thinking about. Can you see where some of your school's philosophy came from?
   
   
5. READ Meltzer Ch 8 (topics & main ideas)
   
   
6. READ Ruggiero Ch 2 (being an individual)
   
   

CLASSWORK:

Since Class 5 is via the internet and there will be no classroom lecture, read the tasks to be completed on the Class 5 web page. These are to be submitted by Class 5 for full credit.
