It is the acronym for Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. GDT is THE method of dimensioning and tolerancing mechanical engineering drawings. It is fully compatible with ANSI (USA) and ISO (International) drawing standards and its use is documented in the recently reaffirmed and greatly expanded standard ASME Y14.5M-1994. GDT is being adopted by more and more companies and government agencies. The day is fast approaching, and may be already here, when GDT expertise in design and /or manufacturing will be a prime competitive consideration. There is no doubt that today a company's ability to properly use GDT IS A MUST FOR ISO 9000 COMPLIANCE.
