Roll Call Votes in Legislature on 61 percent Pay Raise for Legislators

MONTGOMERY , Ala Wednesday, 20 Mar 2007

We seem to have developed a bunch of flim-flam artists running our state government here in Alabama. In the past any pay raise for public officials was voted in for the next term, not the present term. So this bunch of greedy public servants didn't follow protocol of anything other than just wanting their hand in the till. The legislators that voted Yes are not in office for the public, they are in it for themselves and are not going by the wishes or needs of Alabama citizens! This is a list of the votes of the pay raise that these governing officials decided to give themselves although the citizens of this state was not in agreement with any of this. Everyone on the list that voted "YES", "DID NOT VOTE" or "ABSTAINED" needs to be voted out of office next time they run. We do not need people like this running our state government. If you see your representative on this list and they voted for a 61 percent pay raise, do not vote for them again as they are not in there for your best interest. Everyone that is highlighted in red needs to be voted out of office and replaced by someone honest.

Votes Tuesday as the House, on a 57-41 vote, overrode a veto by Governor Bob Riley of a resolution giving legislators a 61 percent pay raise. Voting yes were 7 Republicans and 50 Democrats. Voting no were 34 Republicans and 7 Democrats. Not voting were 2 Republicans and 2 Democrats. Abstaining were 0 Republicans and 3 Democrats.

I would also like to mention that "Lt. Gov. Folsom tried getting this pay raise passed first on a voice vote" with some legislators objecting. Then only after it was vetoed by Gov. Riley the veto was overrode with a roll call vote So our new Lt. Gov. Folsom also needs to be voted out in the next election as he wasn't protecting the citizenry of Alabama.
