The lightning link will make a "stock" AR-15 fire full auto only.
The sear uses the "Colt" green lable bolt carrier to pull the disconnector back releasing the hammer. There is not any modifications necessary to a Green label Colt to get one to work.
The major drawback is that the gun fires full auto only, no semi.
Some people have made custom parts to make a Lightning Link into a select fire sear but I have not seen one of these up close.
The bolt carriers for LL must be the early SP-1 style or one modified to the same dimensions.

The drop in sear basically performs the same function as the M-16's auto diconnector with the exception that it never disengages like the M-16s when in semi. The receiver does not need to be modified for the sear but the M-16's bolt carrier, trigger, disconnector, selector, and hammer all need to be installed in the gun for the dropin sear to work. The new Colt receivers have blocks to stop this and several of the aftermarket receivers do not have enough room in the gun for the sear to fit.

The sears say drop in BUT, someone who knows how to time M-16 rifle needs to check the timing of the sear. Out of time guns can have problems from misfiring to being very danagerous.
John Norrell has the most experience when dealing with sear conversions on the AR-15s.
