Walter's 1969 Beetle
September 18, 2009
Installation of exterior trim is nearly done. The chrome trim strips need to be installed--the pop-out windows were installed shortly after these photos were made. The new trim covers for the pop-out hinges really add a finishing touch that had been missing since the original covers rotted away many years ago. I've just about run out of parts. The pile of zip-lock bags full of sorted hardware is now gone, and all the shipping boxes with new stuff have been emptied and discarded. All that is left is the trim kit and the deck lid seal rubbers. The VW restoration shop has been nearly restored to its former role of VW storage.
The doors now have the trademark VW "Whuummph!" when you close them, and if they aren't moderately slammed they won't fully latch. This car is air-tight just like it was in 1969! I'm now in the process of installing the license plates...sure do hate to hang a plate off the shiny new front bumper, but the Great State of Texas is expecting to see it. Now to decide what to do with the front hood latch...
