Due to some visible wear and tear on the bottom of the drivers seat cover, the seat bottoms and recliner mechanisms were disassembled, painted, lubed, and swapped left/right. This allowed the cover with the wear issues to be moved to the passenger side and the problem area is now next to the tunnel, for all practical purposes hidden. Also, the forty-year-old springs in the driver's seat are pretty much sagged out. The passenger seat with the good springs is now under the steering wheel.

The question might arise as to why the seat covers weren't replaced. Even though the present covers are twenty years old, they are still in excellent condition and responded well to the application of vinyl paint. I think these covers are of heavier gauge material than the covers now available so the decision was made to keep them. But, if Walter decides at some point he wants new covers, it will be a simple job for a shop to pull the seats and recover them.

All that's left in the interior is to install new seat back release knobs. The interior is really attractive for a car that will actually be driven.

Now the paint shop needs to make time for the Beetle...
