Today marks the first month of the Beetle project. We have come a long way and light is visible at the end of the tunnel (and it isn't the headlights of a large tow truck!) Even though the car looks very unfinished, once the Beetle comes back from the paint shop final assembly can happen quickly. It doesn't take very long to put a car back together once all the new parts are in hand and everything has been refinished and ready for assembly.

Here is the refurbished forty-year-old dash pad--it turned out quite nicely. There are a couple of minor blems if you know where to look but I think it will fit just fine in this car. All the other dash components have been painted and are ready to go back into the car once interior assembly gets started after exterior paint is done.

Work is now proceeding on paint prep. This can be time consuming since regardless of how nice a condition you might think the car is in, once you start looking closely a multitude of booboos become obvious. The Beetle has already undergone several repairs and at least one complete repaint so some of the prep will be devoted to repairing previous work.

If this was a show car, some body panels would need replacing. But since our intentions are for a very nice driver that we aren't afraid to put on the road, the existing body will be cleaned up as much as possible, and we won't worry about the car not being 10/10ths perfect

It will still be one of the prettiest Bugs on the highway!
