Walter's 1969 Beetle
July 30, 2009
Spent the day repairing the wiring harnesses that had been damaged by the electrical melt-down and previous repairs. This was time well spent since the reliability and safety of the Beetle has been enhanced. The fuse block looks kinda tired with ample evidence of arcing and corrosion. It'll probably be best to replace it since so much effort has gone into refurbishing the wiring.
The ignition switch harness has been repaired with soldered splices and is ready to be installed in the car after the switch housing is painted.
This doesn't look like much but it shows part of the rebuilt main harness. A lot of damaged wire was cut out of the harness and replaced in a manner that preserved the original wire color coding. This was done to facilitate troubleshooting per the VW wiring schematic in the near or distant future. The harness is now back in the car and protected by corrugated conduit.
