You may recall the tranny had been extracted from the car. This is where we started.

A war was waged against the gods of grime and gremlins of grease. Finally, victory was declared and out of the chaos emerged a clean and freshly painted transaxle with new mounts, backup switch, and fresh gear oil.

Next battle......the underbelly of the engine compartment.

I'm goin' in.......................send rescue if I don't come out...........

(Four hours later) It wasn't too bad. The pressure washer did a pretty good job of stripping the Texas cow pasture mud (get Walter to tell how he pulled a cattle trailer with the Bug....!) and the rear compartment is getting close to being ready for paint. Since the original tarboard firewall insulation is nearly impossible to find in original quality, the firewall will be painted with truck bed liner. This will provide a heavy-duty finish and look nice. Sound insulation will go on the other side of the firewall under the carpet.

One of the rear shock absorbers was completely limp so a new set of rear shocks will be installed. The bump rubbers will also be replaced.
