The rear bumper, lights, and fenders were removed. The gas tank was also removed and drained. The front of the bug is now ready for a deep cleaning in preparation for reconditioning. The intentions are to pull the axle beam and replace the entire brake system.

The engine was the next item to be extracted. Regrettably a good portion of the ancestors of the dirt dauber population of Waxahatchie, TX made the trip to Alabama in the Bug's engine compartment and were relegated to dirt dauber heaven. The transmission will need to come out as well since the rubber mounts are shot. Probably will be a good time to replace the CV joint seals since a noticable amount of grease is being slung out of the tranny housing.

Here is the long block after a good soaking in degreaser and a rinse with the power washer. The engine will not be disassembled any farther since it is in excellent condition.
