Decorating

Watermelon Cake
Lesson 1:  The ROSE:

The following pictures are a step by step process for creating a rose
with icing.  I always add cornstarch to decorator's icing to make the
rose stand up pretty.  This particular rose was made with Wilton tip
#124 and a large rose nail.

Start with making a base for the rose.

Continue building the base for height.   The small end of the tip should be at the top.

The very center of the rose should be closed to make a point.

After the center is formed continue by making three petals around the center.  Hold the bag at an angle to flare the petals out.

 Continue with five petals around.

Finish the rose by going around the entire base of the rose with one motion.  Remove the rose from the nail by using a small spatula and place directly on the cake or use a small square of wax paper against the nail if you wish to refrigerate for later use.
