When I was the girls age me and mamma went to "Fedvull" to do a little shopping.  Right as  we stepped up onto the sidewalk David came out of the crowd and squatted down next to me and started picking at me like he always did.

The models before the shoot.

After he gave me an "Indian Sunburn" or a "Dry Shave", I forget which, he gave me a quarter and went into the pool hall for a "slaw burger."
In front of the pool hall.

We ended up at the toy store and I purchased a Mickey Mouse hat with that quarter.

My face froze this way.

I remember seeing him the night before at Granny and Papa's but this is my earliest actual  memory of David.

Cave paintings!

Little memories like these are important to our family history.
They speak of the character of those remembered  and are the landmarks of our collective history just like this Coke sign.
The Warrens came from North Carolina and settled on land from a Revolutionary War Grant.

I have found 16 Warrens on Confederate Regimental rosters.
There were 3 Daniel Boys from Comargo in one regiment as well.

Thomas Warren died in Lafayette, Indiana while being transported to a POW camp.  13 others were also captured at Fort Donelson.

They fought at Shiloh, Perryville, Ky., Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, The 100 days Battle for Georgia, Franklin, Nashville and Bentonville, North Carolina.

At Murfreesboro the 8th Tenn. had 68.5% casualties while capturing 600 Yankees and 6 cannon.

I can't help but feel that the mean streak that Papa, David and myself have in common was present at those battles in the blood of our fathers.

I also think that those two birds had a bit to do with helping me discover that mean side.   It has come in handy many times.

I don't know how many times that Momma or Daddy have said, "Boy, you are just like..... Papa/David"  I think that I will wear that badge of honor proudly!
