Introduction |
I have a small record collection. I visit thrift shops and very occasionally go to garage sales to build my collection, but I tend not to have much luck, so my collection grows at a very slow rate. As a result, I don't need a big storage unit. A few years ago, I decided to design and build a small storage unit. I didn't have a lot of room for it, and the best location was underneath a window in an 8'x10' section of our bonus room that houses my second stereo system. This sub-room is completely under my control. I call it my "man room". My kids used to get confused and call it the "man's room", which sounds uncomfortably close to "men's room," which is not the impression I want to convey. (I think they call it that now on purpose.) Here are a few photos of it. The design theme is nested squares. The unusual color is the result of an attempt to make it match my flexy rack, which has lightly stained birch plywood shelves. I painted the trim pieces around the cubbyholes a lighter color, and painted a matching stripe around the top to continue the theme.
