Construction Notes

The following table lists the materials I purchased for the project along with their costs (in US dollars). The costs do not include sales tax.

I already had wood glue, 1" drywall and 2" decking screws, paste wax, etc. on hand, so I didn't include them in the table. Factoring in their costs (if needed), plus sales tax and other miscellaneous items, brings the total to something very close to $200.

Material Cost
Flat-cut, two-ply Teak Veneer (4' x 8'), including shipping 82.00
3/4" MDF Sheet (4' x 8') 20.00
1/2" MDF Sheet (4' x 8') 16.00
3/4" MDF Sheet (2' x 4') 6.50
1" Square Aluminum Tube (3') 12.50
3/4" x 3/4" x 1/16" Aluminum Angle (8') 8.00
3/4" x 3/4" x 1/16" Aluminum Angle (4') 3.50
2" x 2" x 1/16" Aluminum Angle (8') 23.00
Watco Teak Oil (1 quart) 7.50
Satin Black Enamel Paint (1 quart) 8.00
Total 187.00

Notes

  • I purchased the veneer from Tape-Ease. Even though it costs more, I like the two-ply veneer because it's very easy to work with.
  • Other than the veneer, I was able to find all the needed materials at local home improvement stores (Lowe's and Home Depot).
  • Even though I needed at most 2 feet of the 2" x 2" aluminum angle for the feet, the shortest length I could find locally was 8 feet.
