This page is a established for the purpose of announcing a new CF sweat testing system soon to be available from Broach Laboratories. The system, model BL102, is a single unit that performs both sweat induction and sweat analysis. Current plans are to begin taking orders for this unit June 1, 2000. The price of the complete system, including all accessories, will be $1475.
The decision to reenter this market was based on a recent survey where we researched the currently available CF sweat testing products and discovered that some of the designs are potentially inaccurate and most are overpriced. Our current plan is to restrict all sales and marketing of the new system to the internet. This should enable us to provide the best product and service at a minimum cost.
This site will soon be expanded to include a considerable amount of technical information about CF sweat testing.
The following paragraphs provide some information about our background in the area of CF sweat testing.
Billy Broach, founder of Broach Laboratories and current President of the company, was the inventor of the first fully integrated Cystic Fibrosis sweat testing system in 1964. The patent for the original system (Measurement System for Clinical Diagnosis) was filed on November 9, 1964 and issued on September 3, 1968 as Patent No. 3,399,666 to Heat Technology Laboratory, Inc., Huntsville, Alabama.
In 1966 Mr. Broach redesigned the unit and started Broach Laboratories to manufacture and sell the improved design. This improved instrument, the Model 101 Fibrocystron Analyzer, was manufactured and sold worldwide for several years. Because of other business interests, a somewhat limited market and the high costs of advertising the instrument in the various pediatric medical journals, the manufacture of the unit was later suspended.
Broach Laboratories is currently exploring a new idea that has the potential to totally revolutionize CF sweat testing! This concept is currently only a theory that has not yet been tested. The testing to evaluate this new concept should be completed within the next six months. If the testing is successful we will introduce a new system employing this technology. The success or failure of these tests will be announced either here or on a new permanent Web site as the test program progresses. The concept for this breakthrough system will not be revealed until such time that a new system employing this technology is officially announced. If the current tests are not sucessful Broach Laboritories will not reveal details of the concept but will continue to research and test other approaches to achieve the same end result.
