Who We Are:
The Rocket City Bears is a social organization serving Huntsville and northern Alabama. It was created to bring together people who are bears, bear friends, or bear admirers for friendship, fellowship, and shared common interests. Its purpose is to sponsor and promote social and recreational activities for its members.
What We Do:
The club has two recurring activities every month. In addition to these monthly events, we occasionally hold other bigger activities throughout the year such as pot luck dinners, video nights, game nights, pool parties, and camping trips. Become A Member: What to be a part of our club? Simply show up at our events, join our Yahoo Group, and/or friend us on Facebook. You're a member! Wasn't that easy? We're a very laid back group of bears with no membership dues or applications. This allows us to remain a fun, social club that doesn't impinge on your time or finances, or get involved in a lot of political or organizational turmoil. We like it that way, and we hope you will too. As a member, you're welcome to participate as much or as little as you want. We also hope you'll offer your suggestions for ideas on things that you'd like to do. Stay Informed: The best way to remain informed of our activities is to join the Rocket City Bears Yahoo Group. The Yahoo Group also includes announcements that may be of general interest to the bear and gay communities overall. It generates about four e-mails a month, if that, so don't worry about being overwhelmed with messages. It's also moderated to prevent unwanted spam, arguments, and off-topic messages. Because of the nature of our club and our By-Laws, please provide your age in the comments to the moderator when you subscribe. Lately, we've gotten more active on Facebook and Twitter. Friend us on Facebook if you prefer to follow us on there. Bear Definition: What is a bear? For every bear that you ask, you'll get a different answer. For most, a bear is a gay man with face or body hair, usually both. Many also consider bears to be somewhat bigger in girth. Still others consider it a playful attitude or liking to cuddle, paw, and/or grope. Others think of it as someone who appears more masculine. While these are the common starting points, you should find and make your own definition for what is a bear. The first monthly event is a dinner at a restaurant in the Huntsville area on the first Sunday of every month at 6pm. The location changes every month, so you'll need to check this web site or subscribe to our Yahoo Group for that month's dinner location.
The second monthly event is a meeting and bar night for conducting club business and socializing. This occurs at 8pm on the second Saturday of every month at Vieux Carré in Huntsville. Vieux Carré is located at 1204 Posey Street Northwest. The easiest way to get there is by heading east on University Drive. Turn right onto Posey Street immediately after passing Pulaski Pike. The Vieux Carré is located on your left at the northeast corner of Posey and Larkin Streets.
