FALL OF MAN

Origin of sin (2 Pet. 2:4; Jude 6). Sin began in the prideful will of Satan (Is. 14:12-14; Ezek. 28:12-17).

First sin (Gen. 3:1-7). Adam and Eve sinned by free choice (against knowledge). From that point, all mankind became sinners by nature (Rom. 5:12; Eph. 2:3) and choice (Rom. 3:10-23). Each person stands responsible for the selfish choice to sin (Ezek. 18:20).

Definitions of sin (Ps. 51:1-3). The Bible calls sin willful rebellion (transgression– overstepping God’s boundaries), crookedness (iniquity), and missing the aim or direction (Rom. 3:23; Mk. 10:21; Lk. 15:14). All sin is committed first against God (Ps. 51:4; Lk. 15:21).

Sin is transgression of the law (1 Jn. 3:4).

Sin is coming short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23).

Sin is rebellion against God (Is. 1:2).

                    Sin is unbelief (Rom. 14:23).

Sin is going my own way (Is. 53:6).

Sin is unrighteousness (1 Jn. 5:17).

                    Sin is disobedience (Rom. 5:19).

         End of sin (Gen. 2:17).

                    Spiritual death (Rom. 6:23).

                    Physical death (1 Cor. 15:54).

                    Eternal death (Rev. 20:15).

         Consequences of sin.

                    Depravity (Gen. 6:5; Job 14:4; Ps. 51:5, 53:1-3, 58:3; Prov. 22:15; Lk. 11:13; Rom. 7:18; Eph. 2:3).

Deadness (Gen. 2:17, 3:3; Jn. 8:24; Rom. 6:23; Eph. 2:1-5; Col. 2:13; 1 Tim. 5:6). Only Christ can awaken the dead in sin and give new life (Ezek. 36:26). In Christ a person receives a spiritual resurrection to life (Jn. 3:3, 5:24).

Deceitful (Jer. 17:9). People create new evils (Rom. 1:30) and mock at sin (Prov. 14:9).

Disease (Is. 1:6). The sickness of sin calls for a divine physician (Mk. 2:17).

Destruction (Rom. 3:15-17). Sin leaves a trail of woe.

         Remedy for sin (1 Cor. 15:22; 2 Cor. 5:21).

Instead of seeking God’s forgiveness, people attempt to deal with sin by a man-made solution.

The problem of sin demands God’s remedy– forgiveness . Forgiveness from sin comes through repentance and faith in the work of Christ who died for sin (Rom. 5:8).
