On February 6, 1998, the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the United Nations agency which coordinates global communications standards, reached an agreement on a new 56 Kbps international standard called V.90. Modem manufacturers, who previously had been producing modems with either x2 or K56flex technology, are planning to migrate to the new V.90 standard. Below is a list of modem manufacturers and an indication of whether or not they currently have V.90 available. For up-to-date information about specific manufacturers' V.90 plans, please visit their respective Web sites. Inspect the below, then visit http://www.v90.com/ for comprehensive information about the V.90 standard. Caution: Before you make a substantial change to how you communicate with a modem, check with your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and see what they support. For some, even if you have V.90, your ISP might not be ready yet. |
