Meet Bailey's Irish Cream, a registerd yellow lab, just a little over a year old, just about all trained and ready to hunt! A good freind of ours recently had a heart attack, he's recovering ok but had to sell the farm, retire, and move into town, he doesn't think he will be able to use her to her full potential, and he really doesn't like keeping her in a kennel in the city. So he gave her to me, free and clear, as we have 80 acres for her to run around in with our other useless non-hunting lab, I should be able to find the time to take her out and hunt her (tough work I know!), and he said if he can get out on a couple easy hunts with me and Bailey once in a while it will be well worth the investment.

So far I've taken her out to the back 40 and put her through her paces with the retreiving dummy - what a joy, she really knows her stuff, and has a tremendous nose. Got out the shotgun even and shot at the dummy, and while that was a bit new to her she did just fine, although we are going to back up and use the 22 for the next few sessions to be sure she stays steady. There are a lot of snipe out in the pasture and she seems really interested in sniffing them out and flushing them, so when I get her a bit more used to the big gun we are going to see if she can break in as a snipe hound. If this all works out I'm going have to figure out how to combine sculling and retreiving - any ideas? image
