The image below shows the Heinemann first edition (on the right).
Beside it, on the left, is the advanced reading proof (arp). I am showing
that only as a matter of interest. It is common that most publishers will
release an advanced printing of a book for review by book dealers or
others involved in the book trade. This is in hope that the recipient will
find favor with the book and promote it. I suspect many...perhaps all of
Nevil Shutes titles had these ARCs (advanced reading copies) made
available to certain people, although they are quite rare.

This ARP edition, was one of 1,000 copies donated by Heinemann
on the publication day of the first edition. I have been told it was
printed off the same plates as the first edition, using thinner paper and
a less substancial binding. As you can see from the photo, it is not a
"hard back" book.

The first edition of What Happened To The Corbetts (on the right)
is bound in a red cloth. If you could see the book without the dust
jacket you would see the title and author's name on the spine, in black
block lettters, and the windmill logo on the right bottom of the rear
board. Unlike some of the other titles, the price listed on the book is
located, not on the dust jacket corner, but on the spine, below the
author's name.
The dust jacket images on this page were donated by Mr. Johan Baker.
