Although the artwork on the front of both dust jackets is identical, the
bottom of the inside front flap of the Sears printing clearly states that it is a "BOOK CLUB EDITION". Also, the Sears edition does not show the $3.50 price at the top right hand corner of the dust jacket's front inside flap, as does the Morrow first edition. |
|
Sears Readers Club printed a copy of The Far
Country that had a similar dust jacket to the Morrow first edition. It is easy, however, to distinquish the difference between the two. |
|
The back of the dust jacket of the Sears Readers Club edition reads
"....beautiful descriptions of Victoria and the people..." Whereas the Morrow first edition reads "...beautiful descriptions of Victoria Province and the people..."
The books themselves are easy enough to identify. The first edition has
medium gray covers with blue lettering on the spine. As is common with the Morrow first editions, there is no printing listed after the title page.
The Sears Readers Club edition has blue covers with darker blue lettering
on the spine. At the bottom of the title page is printed "Sears Readers Club Chicago". As is the reputation of many book club editions, the quality of this book is inferior to the first edition, at least in my humble opinion. |
