The Literary Guild edition is very similar to the Morrow 1st edition
with the exception of several occasions where The Literary Guild was kind enough to identify themselves as the printer on the dust jacket and in the book. The front of the dust jacket is identical, but when you look at the back side, you notice that at the very bottom of the jacket the Morrow edition shows WILLIAM MORROW AND COMPANY, with the address on the next line....386 Fourth Avenue, New York City, as seen in the images below. The Literary Guild edition identifies itself in the same place. The William Morrow and Company is replaced by The Literary Guild of America, Inc. on the book club edition. The Morrow first edition's dust jacket also has the words "AND PUBLISHED BY MORROW" on the bottom of the front and rear inside flap, as well as the price of $2.50 printed in the upper right corner of the front inside flap. All of these are absent on the book club edition. |

An Old Captivity is a fairly common
book....easy to find copies of. It becomes a bit more difficult to find one with the dust jacket, and even more rare with both in very good or better condition. |

The book itself is also very easy to distinquish. If you look at the title
page of the Literary Guild edition, you will find the words "The Literary Guild of America, Inc. printed well below the author's name. On the first edition the words "WILLIAM MORROW AND CO." are printed. So, as you can see, this title is very clearly marked and easy to identify. |
