| The Torrent
Released February 21, 1926.
Producers were not sure how to cast Garbo once she arrived in Hollywood. In this, her first American film, she was cast as Leonara, a Spanish peasant girl who is sent to Paris and becomes an opera singer. The film would not be her most memorable, but MGM executives and audiences were pleased with her. Variety claimed that Garbo "has everything, with looks, acting ability and personality". Louis B. Mayer's initial instinct about "those eyes" had paid off. The Torrent was a success. |
