Tallulah played
a seductress trying to steal Herbert Marshall from Cathleen Nesbitt.
During the brief run, Tallulah befriended Nesbitt and her baby son and
showered both of them with gifts. Nesbitt had been engaged to the poet
Rupert Brooke at the time of his death at the age of 27 in 1915 and
this fascinated Tallulah, who adored Brooke's writings.
Tallulah's Comments:
"Although This Marriage was a failure, I no longer was afraid
of becoming a public charge. Now I had a following, its loyalty in nowise
abated because I was the victim of two duds. My nonchallance in adversity
increased their devotion."
