Footloose
Theater:
Greenwich Village
Opening Date: May 20, 1920
Performances: 32
Playwright:
Zoe Akins
Director & Producer: George C. Tyler
Partial
Cast: Robert Casadesus, Elisabeth Risdon, John Webster, Norman Trevor,
O.P. Heggie.
Tallulah's
Role: Rose de Brissac
Tallulah's
first substantial role was won partly on the recommendation of playwright
Zoe Akins, who had admired Tallulah's ability at mimicry (she could
do a devastating impersonation of Ethel Barrymore) and her ability to
memorize long passages of dialog after only a few readings. Akins would
later say that the character of Eva Lovelace in Morning Glory
(which won Katharine Hepburn her first Academy Award) was patterned
after Tallulah.
Tallulah's
comments: "For the first time I could pick up the morning papers,
and read a report on my performance."
