The English
translation for the name of this rose is "Thousand Beauties",
an apt title because of the multi-coloring of the blooms. Like most
ramblers, Tausendschon blooms only once in the spring, but
when it does, it is a showstopper. Huge clusters of blooms open in
shades of bright pink and lavender and fade to white as they age.
The clusters will have various shades of color at one time which is
truly spectacular.
Tausendschon
is not as vigorous as some ramblers, reaching a height of about 10-12
feet. It is a good candidate for a fence or a pillar. The long pliable
canes are easy to train and thornless. Fragrance is slight. Leaves
are an attractive dark glossy green. Tausendschon is susceptible
to mildew so it should be placed where it can receive good air circulation.
Variations of this rose include White Tausendchon (with white
flowers) and Roserie (with constant pink flowers). Tausendschon
is a rose often found in old home places and is often mistaken for
Seven Sisters.
