Jessica
Lange was very enthusiastic about her role as Mary MacGregor
in Rob Roy. "My initial reaction was how rare it is to
find a script so beautifully written, with a female role as
multi-dimensional as Mary. What struck me--and what I think
I liked best about it--was how purely male and female it was,
full of love and lust, trust and honor, sexuality and sensuality."
Rob
Roy was filmed entirely on location and, with the exception
of Lange and Eric Stolz, the cast and crew were Scottish.
The director Michael Caton-Jones, has just finished This Boys
Life and was excited about the opportunity to make a film
in his homeland.
Rob
Roy is the true story of Robert Roy MacGregor, a hero of 18th
Century Scotland, whose love for his wife and family gave
him honor, courage and, ultimately, his life. The film boasts
beautiful scenery and performances and features one of the
most intense sword fights ever filmed.
This
was an entirely different type of role for Lange and her first
with a foreign accent but she handles the difficult dialog
with ease.

who doesn't know how to be untruthful on screen, is perfectly
believable and full of life." - Barbara Shulgasser, San
Francisco Examiner

Lange brings her usual presence and skill to the role"
- Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times
