| Camille
Released January 22, 1937
Greta Garbo gives probably her finest performance in Camille, a tearjerker astutely directed by George Cukor. The film in sumptuous and Garbo's beauty is mesmerizing. Who can forget her first close up as her looks up from a bouquet of flowers? The film also has one of the most famous deathbed scenes ever put on celluloid. Garbo received an Academy Award nomination for her performance and was generally expected to win. Luise Rainer, however, took home the award for The Good Earth. It was her second win two years in a row. |
