FOREWORD 

Since its original publication in 1939, "The Chosen Baby" has become practically a classic in the child adoption field.  [...]  The author told this story to her own adopted son, Peter, when he was four years old.  It became at once his favorite story.  With the thought that other children would also like it, since it is the story of every adopted child, Dr. Wasson wrote this book for parents to read to their children.  Because it was written out of the immediate experience with children who are still under five, "The Chosen Baby" is intended for parent of young children, who wish to make this first explanations of adoption a happy and easily understood experience.

I suggest that this little book be used by parents to supplement their own explanation to their children of the facts of adoption.
