Comments: This is a great site! I need some assistance if that's okay. My father was born in 1933 and was a paratrooper for the Army in the 50's. He went to Okinawa. He died when I was sixteen, and I need to know about any sites where I can begin to find information about his time in Okinawa. Please help if you can.

Remember me? I was the tall red head guy in A company 50th sig. I was an 0-5 Bravo ( field radio ) and remember some great times. Where did everyone go? Let me just say that after the Army, I went on to be a police officer with the LAPD and I owe my life ( many times over ) to the fact that I am a paratrooper. When one is fighting for his life, it's good to have those wings and all that they stand for, to draw strength from. Aint no dirt bag gonna take this Paratrooper out! Ahhrrooorrra!! While at Ft Campbell, a SS Charles "Snake" King ran the beer garden across from our company heaqdquarters. He got the name snake from "snaking through the grass at Los Banos. He was a real "character" Also we had a Sgt. Concannon (missing some teeth) in front from the 187 Rakkasans (sp?) sorry, and also our first SGT was Bernie Averitte whom jumped on Corridor. Maybe these gus are gone but not forgotten. Also a Sgt Kulick whom weathered wounds in Korea to become a trooper when I was there. He was a gutsy guy. If any one know of these great guys or anthing about them I would like to hear about them.

I was with quite a few other units TDY, but the 11th is the one I am most proud. My CO was CWO John T. Palmer, as fine an officer as ever was, SSGT Ronald McElliot was there also. Years served were from 1971 to 1974. An adventure for sure, I was 17 when I enlisted in the Army (had Mom and Dad sign a waiver), and was only 20 when I got out. Comments: To whom it may concern. I am presently collating and researching information about the 82nd & 101st Airborne Division and their involvement in the landings in Normandy on D-Day 6th June 1944. In particular I would like to hear from any veterans who served in Normandy and wish to share their memories of the D-Day landings. My work will be published in September 2000, by Leo Cooper, Pen & Sword Books Ltd, England, and will be titled 'UTAH BEACH & ST MERE EGLISE' and will form part of their 'BATTLEGROUND EUROPE SERIES WW II'. It is my wish to preserve many first hand accounts of the American Airborne role in the Normandy landings for posterity, and I would greatly appreciate any assistance or contributions in locating and recieving mail from veterans or from their freinds or relatives. Naturally any assistance will be duly acknowledge in my work. If you are able to help please contact me on my e-mail:c-shilleto@ucrysj.ac.uk or write enclosing any information to:....Mr CARL SHILLETO, MILITARY HISTORIAN, C/O 46 ALBION AVENUE, ACOMB, YORK...YO26 5QY...ENGLAND..... As my work will have many illustrations and photographs, I would be pleased to recieve copies of any photographs taken around the time of the D-Day Landings. I would also be interested in any 'then and now' photographs of any Paratroopers. If you wish to see an example of the type of publication it will be. My previous work in this series is titled 'PEGASUS BRIDGE/MERVILLE BATTERY' and documents the British 6th Airborne Division landings....... With thanks and kindest regards to all who read this message ....Carl Shilleto... University College of Ripon & York St John, England.

I was a staff sgt in "M" Co.,3rd Battalion,508 Airborne Regimental Combat Team stationed at Sand Hill, Ft.Benning,Ga. from 1951-1953. The 508 had just been reconstituted and reported directly to the XVIII CORPS. The regiment was involved in an infamous Texas jump called "operation longhorn" in 1953 (?). Infamous because the regimental commander gave the order to jump in winds that exceeded safe levels, resulting n 200 plus serious injuries and 2 deaths . I am searching for a detailed military report on this maneuver; can anyone give me direction? Looking forward to much reminiscing and browsing here.SLIP SIDEWAYS FOR AND EASY PLF!
