MORE THAN YOU COULD EVER POSSIBLY WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE 1981 FLEER
PAC-MAN STICKERS & RUB-OFF GAME CARDS
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, I'm really, REALLY bored, so it's time to document this stuff.

In 1981 Fleer released a set of "Pac-Man" stickers and rub-off game
cards. These came in wax-packs of 3 stickers, 3 rub-off game cards, and
one stick of chalky bubble-gum. I wasted a good amount of time as a kid
trying to put a set of these togther, and still have not completed it.
I need sticker 32. If you have this, please let me know it exists
before I lose my mind.

STICKERS
--------
There were a lot of odd variations with the stickers. Here are the ones
I have found:

FRONTS: 1. Sticker Pac-men have no eyes or outline whatsoever.
         2. Sticker Pac-men have eyes in the shape of pac-man,
              Pac-men outlined in blue and red on the sides.
         3. Sticker Pac-men have big rolling "google" eyes with irises,
              Pac-men outlined in blue and red on the sides.

BACKS: 1. Blue print, normal pac-man in upper right corner
         2. Blue print, shmoo-like pac-man in upper right corner
         3. Black print, norman pac-man in upper right corner

I have found no connection between front variations and backs. I have
stickers with all different combinations. Some twisted person at fleer
must have had a good laugh picturing us poor anal-retentive kids trying to
complete all the "sets" when there WAS no such thing. He probably hoarded
all the #32's, too.  Bastard.

The back of the stickers read as follows:

FLEER (crown logo)...........................> (pacman)

                     P A C - M A N
                                      TM
(C) MIDWAY 1980         STICKER

                      NO. 1 OF 54

                     RUB-OFF GAME

1. USE STICKERS AS PRIZES OR
    FOR TRADING
2. THERE IS ONE STICKER FOR
    EACH RUB-OFF GAME
3.  RUN YOUR OWN PAC-MAN
    RUB-OFF CONTEST OR
    RUB-OFF OLYMPICS

RUB-OFF GAME CARDS
------------------
There were 54 different stickers and 28 different rub-off games. The rub-off
games consisted of a pac-man-like maze with rub-off spots. There are 46 spots
to rub off, and under each is either a dot, a cherry, blue monsters, or
red, orange, pink monsters. Pac-Man starts in the usual middle spot.
The back of the game cards read as follows:

FLEER (crown logo) (C) MIDWAY 1980 T.M. OF MIDWAY MFG. CO.

                         P A C  -  M A N
                          RUB-OFF GAME

          * WHITE DOTS...................1 POINT EACH
          * BLUE MONSTERS................10 POINTS EACH
          * CHERRY.......................50 POINTS
          * RED, ORNAGE OR
            PINK MONSTERS................FIND 3 - - GAME
                                         IS OVER

-----------------------------------------------------------------

HOW TO PLAY

1. Starting at yellow PAC-MAN; Rub off GOLD DOTS
    one at a time.
2. You may go in any direction (BACKWARD, FORWARD,
    or SIDEWAYS) as you follow the maze.
3. You may not jump over GOLD DOTS but may go over
    DOTS already rubbed off to get to other areas.
4. You may go out SIDE DOORS to get to other side.
5. Uncover three COLORED MONSTERS (BLUE NOT
    INCLUDED)--game is over
6. More than ONE person can play by alternating turns or
    using their own PAC-MAN boards.
7. Use PAC-MAN stickers as prizes, for trading, or
    collecting.

YOUR NAME                     |  YOUR SCORE
-----------------------------------------------------------------
                    HIGHEST SCORE WINS!

Comments:

1. Some of the games were too damn hard - for example, one starts you
    with a 'bad' monster on each side of the starting spot. What evil
    game designer got off from this kinda crap!?

2. Some mutant cards I got did not allow you to rub the spots off, except
    where the monsters were. Very bizarre. Probably that same jerk
    who's has all the #32's, and came up with the stupid variations.

Inky (light blue monster) seems to be ignored in the stickers and
rub-off game entirely. In cases with a blue monster on the stickers it
is the darker blue "scared" monster with the squiggly mouth. WHAT
GIVES? WHERE THE HELL IS INKY?! Yet another way to mess with my brain.
There's probably a "Inky Subset" out there, waiting for me to find it.
Complete with gold-foil limited edition inserts of "Inky".
