About Me

I am a contract scientist for the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences at the Wheeler-Pruitt Regional Laboratory in Huntsville. I also currently teach biology and microbiology courses as an adjunct faculty member at Calhoun Community College in Huntsville and Decatur.

I married the most wonderful man in the world in June of 1995, Rich Hammett . The other most wonderful, and cuddly, man in my life is my cat Oliver .

In 1994 I was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Later that same year, Rich and I were engaged on the shores of Inarinjärvi (Lake Inari), Lapland, Finland.

We have lived in Huntsville since 1997. I have participate in many area music groups, including the Madison Community Band, Twickenham Winds, Huntsville Community Chorus, and Huntsville Concert Band. After many years of playing individually or with ad hoc groups at weddings, church services, and other occasions, Stacey Mixon, Rachel Reinhardt, and I have established a professional flute trio named Trillium. For contact and other information, please visit the Trillium home page.

My Granddad flew in WWII with the 91st Bomber Group from Bassingbourn, England.

Education

I received my B.S. in Microbiology from Auburn University in 1993, and my M.S. in Microbiology in 1998, also from Auburn University. My thesis is titled "Analysis of Gene Copy Number, Transcript Accumulation, and atpA DNA Sequence in the Mitochondria of Brassica campestris." I also taught undergraduate labs in the Department of Botany and Microbiology . My thesis advisor was Dr. Brent Nielsen , who is now on the Microbiology faculty at Brigham Young University.
