About Me
I am a contract scientist for the
Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences
at the Wheeler-Pruitt Regional Laboratory in Huntsville.
I also currently teach biology and microbiology courses as an adjunct
faculty member at
Calhoun Community College
in Huntsville and Decatur.
I married the most wonderful man in the world in June of 1995,
Rich Hammett .
The other most wonderful, and cuddly, man in my life is my cat Oliver
.
In 1994 I was baptized a member of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Later that same year,
Rich and I were engaged on the shores of Inarinjärvi (Lake Inari),
Lapland, Finland.
We have lived in Huntsville since 1997. I have participate in many area
music groups, including the Madison Community Band,
Twickenham Winds, Huntsville Community Chorus, and Huntsville Concert Band.
After many years of playing individually or with ad hoc groups at weddings,
church services, and other occasions, Stacey Mixon, Rachel Reinhardt, and
I have established a professional flute trio named Trillium. For

My Granddad flew in WWII with the
91st Bomber Group from
Bassingbourn, England.
Education
I received my B.S. in Microbiology from Auburn University in 1993, and
my M.S. in Microbiology in 1998, also from Auburn University.
My thesis is titled "Analysis of Gene Copy Number, Transcript Accumulation,
and atpA DNA Sequence in the Mitochondria of Brassica campestris."
I also taught undergraduate labs in the
Department of Botany and Microbiology .
My thesis advisor was
Dr. Brent Nielsen , who is now on the Microbiology faculty at
Brigham Young University.
