Here's Terry Bailey's version of the Corvair exhaust system. He built these for Bob Lester, and they are almost "universal" in that they have the potential to fit almost any airplane due to the shape.

I didn't get a good picture of what I mean by that, but basically all of the three stubs empty into an 90 degree fitting which is welded to the same 1.5" diameter log, so that you have them all going into one pipe that's horizontal and only a few inches below the head (like WW's), with a 90 degree downward bend on the end. Also included is another 90 degree shaped pipe with an expanded slip joint that can be easily cut to length and clamped to the header pipe, and then bends 90 degrees again back under the airplane. Basically it goes horizontal, vertically downward, and horizontal again, and the distance is "adjustable" by cutting the last pipe shorter on either end. I believe he'll weld up a set for anybody that needs them. He's at baileyt@hemc.

Here's Gus Warren running a Corvair on WW's engine test stand in the engine runup area. It was so quiet that you really couldn't hear it until you got close. By contrast, there was a rotary a few feet away that was deafening, and it smoked a lot.

Here's WW's breather strategy.

William hangs out in the shade a lot these days. He says the lambchops were designed to give Grace's visiting parents a scare. Generally, WW is back to his old self though.

Steve Makish flew his KR2 in and parked it for all to see his 3100cc Corvair installation.

Bob Lester helped him with the sheet metal work, and I must say it's impressive. Notice the intake log setup.

Note that the mount is a swing-out affair for easy maintenance.

I believe he said this oil filler is from Summit Racing, designed for custom radiator installations.

Steve apologized for his cowling, which he threw together just good enough to make SNF. He'll get the rest up to his usual standards in time for the Gathering.

David Stroud talked for a minute about his sucessful Christavia installation.

The engine drew quite a crowd.

Dave's BBQ dinner was quite a sucess, with lots of folks taking him up on his hospitality. Thanks a lot!
