During the summer heat in deeper water 4-5 feet off bottom, depending on the flow of the river, organic material like grain, meat waste, organic material in the water column, will all cause oxygen to be depleated to such a degree that there is not enough to allow fish to survive for long. The point is fish avoid deeper water in the summer because of the lack of oxygen. The best bait for large channels or flats is a live1/2 pound bluegill or bream hooked under the dorsal with large clear bobber about four feet up from bait. NO WEIGHTS. Tie yourself to a pole and hold on !! great bait for stripe and l.m. bass too....keep it simple, for tight lines !!
