Very interesting replies! I'll have to put in my plug for Cullman. I'm originally from B'ham, moved here 8 years ago to start my practice. We've been very happy here and have no desire or plans to leave. If it's important to you, Cullman is a dry county, and that does cut down somewhat on the alcohol related incidents. As a local physician, I can also state that we have great medical facilities and people staffing them. Our girls are in elementary school, and we've been pleased, though govt funding of the city schools could be better. One hour to Huntsville or Birmingham via I-65. You can be at the ramp at Smith Lake (deep and clear, spots and striped bass fishery)in 30-45 mins, and at Guntersville in 40-50 mins. A very nice community, 15,000 population in the city, 75,000 in the county.
