The black spots common on bass have nothing to do with the Largemouth Bass Virus, LMBV can only be determined through laboratory analysis. Black spots are sort of like birthmarks, usually the spots are formed due to bursting of melanophores below the skin. Sores could be from a variety of sources, but are not directly associated with LMBV either, however, a fish with LMBV could be more susceptible to infection. check out the link below. Also, LMBV has been found in most reservoirs in Alabama.
